The Leo Club of UOC Alumni successfully launched the first phase of Project Second Wind, an initiative conducted under the theme of Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation, with the aim of empowering young people through awareness, guidance, and informed decision-making.
The inaugural programme was conducted at a Dhamma School in Galle, bringing together approximately 60 students from Grades 8 to 10 for an engaging awareness session focused on the importance of making responsible choices and understanding the challenges that young people may encounter during their formative years.
The session was facilitated by Mr. Pasindu Manimelduwa, Career and Student Counsellor, who shared valuable insights on decision-making, personal development, peer influence, and the importance of maintaining a positive direction in life. Through an interactive and student-focused approach, the session encouraged participants to reflect on their choices and develop the confidence to navigate challenges responsibly.
Rather than simply presenting information, the programme created a supportive environment where students could learn, reflect, and engage openly with topics relevant to their personal and social development. The participation of students from Grades 8 to 10 further emphasized the importance of introducing preventive awareness and positive guidance at an early stage.
Building Awareness Before the Risk
Project Second Wind is founded on the belief that prevention begins with awareness, education, and meaningful guidance. By engaging young communities before they are exposed to serious risks, the project seeks to strengthen their ability to recognize harmful influences, make informed decisions, and seek positive pathways when faced with difficult circumstances.
The successful completion of the first phase marks an important milestone in the Leo Club of UOC Alumni’s continued commitment to youth empowerment, community development, and preventive awareness.
Through Project Second Wind, the club aims to create meaningful spaces for young people to gain knowledge, build confidence, and develop the awareness necessary to pursue healthier and more positive futures.
The project will continue through future initiatives aimed at strengthening awareness and guidance within young communities, contributing to a broader effort towards drug prevention, rehabilitation awareness, and youth empowerment.
Project Second Wind - empowering young minds to choose a better direction, one step at a time.
